Starting fall with above average temperatures

A stretch of 90s continues with chances for rain this week

The 90s stay , rain chances move in.

Today’s Forecast:

HOUSTON – Sunday marks the Autumnal Equinox, but if you step outside, it will still feel like summer. Sunday will be sunny, hot, and humid, with temperatures in the low to mid 90s. It will be another day of triple-digit “feels-like” temperatures. There will be plenty of sunshine on Sunday, with less than a 20% chance of rain due to a sea breeze.

Rain Chances Return:

The Texas panhandle is seeing fall temperatures as a cold front moves south. The front has also triggered severe thunderstorms across Amarillo.

Will SE Texas get that push of cool air? The answer is no. The cold front will likely fall apart before clearing Houston, so there will be no drastic refreshing drop in temperatures or humidity. The front paired will aid in a few spotty showers on Monday.

Two cold fronts will bring in rain chances but no cooler air.

Another cold front develops behind that first weak front, bringing another chance for showers and storms.

Far from a wash out this week.

Tracking the Tropics:

The tropics are the talk of the town as we’re beginning to track a tropical wave that may eventually get a little too close to home. This weekend, we’ll be watching a tropical wave that looks to position itself between Northwestern Caribbean Sea and Gulf of Mexico.

There is now a high chance the cluster of showers and thunderstorms in the NW Caribbean and Yucatan will from into a tropical disturbance.

So let’s talk about what we know vs what we don’t know. Since a storm hasn’t even formed yet, the modeling for what “may” form in terms of location, strength and path are way too early to put a reliable bullseye on.

Models continue to keep the potential storm away from the Texas coastline, instead guiding it from Mississippi to Florida. The final location of this storm (which will become HELENE if it forms), will continue to change so make sure to check back with us often this weekend.

The tropical disturbance will enter the Gulf by midweek. Models suggest it has an easterly track.

So the bottom line is, we are still a few days away from having a starting position for the weather models to lock into and then go from there. Once they do, late this weekend, that will help to clean up some errors about “first guesses”, which is what we have for now.

10-day Forecast:

We stay dry. Highs will be in the 90s, but morning lows will be comfortable in the mid-70s! The start of fall is Sunday, but it will still feel like summer here in SE Texas.
