HOUSTON – Tropical Storm Otto formed Monday afternoon in the southern Caribbean Sea.
According to the National Hurricane Center, Otto was about 305 miles east of the coast of Nicaragua and was stationary. The storm had winds of about 50 mph with gusts up to 65 mph.

The storm is forecast to strengthen into a Category 1 hurricane by Wednesday morning.
Otto is expected to make landfall near the border of Nicaragua and Costa Rica sometime Thursday.
Hurricane season ends Nov. 30.
While it is rare for storms to form this late in the season, it is not unheard of. The peak of hurricane season happens in September.
Otto is not expected to affect Houston’s weather.
