HONORARY OFFICER
HOUSTON – KPRC 2 is starting a new segment in honor of honorary officer Abigail Arias. She is the little girl who captured all of our hearts this past year as she battled cancer.
RELATED: Goal in sight for 10-year-old cancer fighter
Abigail was diagnosed in 2017 with Wilms tumor, a rare kidney cancer that metastasized into her lungs.
She had a dream to become a crime fighter. And that dream came true in February of 2019 when Freeport Police Chief Ray Garivey made her an honorary officer.
Celebrity status
The next nine months were a whirlwind.
Abigail became a local celebrity.
Everyone wanted to meet officer 758. She traveled the country spreading joy with her contagious smile.
Her spirit lives on
Sadly, Abigail passed in November. But her sweet spirit lives on.
That is what has inspired our new segment named in her honor: Bells for Abigail.
Abigail’s bell day
Abigail rang her bell in October of 2017 when she was declared in remission. Her family shared the moving moment on social media.
Her cancer did return but this video is a reminder that Abigail was not only a crime fighter. She was a cancer fighter.
Bells for Abigail
Abigail’s motto was “Stay relentless.” That is why we believe she would want every child’s bell-ringing moment to be shared and celebrated.

We are asking for all families who have children who have battled cancer, and rang the survivor's bell, to send video of that bell-ringing to KPRC 2.
We will show those videos on KPRC 2 and Click2Houston.com as an on-going tribute to Abigail.
