The home made famous by its former decay – Grey Gardens – is on the market for nearly $20 million, The Wall Street Journal reports.
The home, which became a sort of character all on its own in the 1975 documentary “Grey Gardens,” was once the home of “Little Edie” Beale and her mother, Edith Bouvier Beale. The eccentric duo featured in the documentary were relatives of former first lady - Jackie Kennedy Onassis. The documentary showed them living in squalor as the home fell into decay. Their stunning story eventually became a Broadway musical and an HBO film, in which Drew Barrymore and Jessica Lange starred.

Journalist Sally Quinn and her late husband, former Washington Post executive editor Ben Bradlee, purchased the home in 1979. After paying a reported $220,000 for the home then, they restored it over the years for an estimated $600,000.
The 6,000-square-feet house was built in 1897. It sits on 1.5 acres of land near Georgica Beach in East Hampton, New York. The official market price is $19.995 million.
The Wall Street Journal reports many of Beales’ personal items remain at the home, including a collection of Little Edie’s glass animals, which Quinn kept in her office.
Quinn, 75, told The Wall Street Journal that living at Grey Gardens is not the same without Bradlee, who died in 2014 at the age of 93.
“It’s a magical place and we had a magical life there, but that part of my life is over now,” she told the paper. “I want to move on.”
