Harris County Sheriff's Office deputy dies on job

HOUSTON – Harris County deputies are mourning the death of a 26-year veteran deputy who was found unresponsive in his car overnight.

A procession was held Tuesday for Senior Deputy T. Faughtenbery who Harris County Sheriff's deputies said died on the job.

"The HCSO is saddened to announce the in-the-line death of Senior Deputy T. Faughtenbery. He was a 26 year veteran of the HCSO," the Sheriff's Office said.

Faughtenbery was found in his patrol car late Monday in the 6000 block of U.S. 90. Officials said he was in the driver seat of the patrol unit with the engine running and the doors locked.

An employee of the gas station and a customer attempted to make contact with Faughtenbery by hitting the driver side window.

Emergency crews broke the window to administer first aid, but he was pronounced dead at the scene.
