If you’re planning to take part in the first game of Astros’ baseball this year, here’s everything you can expect:

Tickets

If you waited until the last minute to think about tickets, have no fear! You can still find Standing Room Only tickets on MLB.com for $64. Actual seats are also still available, but they’re going to cost you about $100 more.

Street Fest

If you aren’t busy before the first pitch, Street Fest is the place to be! From noon to 3 p.m., the festival takes place right outside of Minute Maid Park and features live music, yard games, giveaways, food trucks and more. You must have a valid ticket to the Opening Day game to attend.

Weather

It’d be hard to pick a more beautiful day to visit Minute Maid than Thursday. It looks to be sunny all day, and temperatures will be in the mid-70s around first pitch at 3:10 p.m. CDT. They’ll drop into the 60s as the sun sets, but you should be all set with blue jeans and a light jacket. Just don’t forget your Astro’s gear!

Travel and Parking

Traffic is always chaotic around Downtown Houston, and it will likely be even crazier for the first game of the season. It would be smart to get away a few minutes early to make sure you don’t miss the first pitch. For parking, one option is the Star Garage at 703 Fannin St., which will run you around $20 and is roughly a 12-minute walk from the stadium.

The Matchup

The Astros will be hosting the Yankees, who have been a familiar AL foe for the Astros since their first World Series run in 2017. In their most recent postseason series, the Astros cruised to a 4-0 sweep in the 2022 ALCS.

The Astros will be starting pitcher Framber Valdez, while the Yankees will start Nestor Cortes.
