HOUSTON – A Houston man claims he was set up and robbed by a woman he once dated and now he's exposing her on social media as a warning to others.
The 21-year-old man, who does not want his identity revealed, said he met the 19-year-old woman last year. He said they went out, but stopped seeing each other.
Monday night, the man said, she reached out to him in a series of private messages on Facebook.
"She said, 'Do you wanna come see me?' I was, like, 'Yeah sure,'" he recalled.
The young woman told the man to meet her at Berry Elementary School around 9 p.m.
"I didn't think nothing of it," he said.
But when he got to the school, he saw she wasn't alone.
"She says, 'My brother's here with me. He just wants to make sure I'm safe,'" he said.
The man said the brother shook his hand and then left, and the couple went on their way. But the woman asked him to pull over a short time later so she could call her brother.
"All of a sudden, out of nowhere, the car comes and blocks me off the road," he said.
The man said the brother got into his truck and pointed a revolver at him while another man climbed in the passenger side and held him at knifepoint.
The woman took off in her brother's car, leaving the man with the two robbers.
"He said, 'You're gonna die right now. We're part of the Mexican cartels,'" the man said.
The men drove the victim to a field near the Hardy Toll Road and Crosstimbers and let him go, but not before stealing his truck and his wallet, which contained $700.
The victim said, "$450 of that was from my paycheck I received on Monday. $250 was from a bet I made with a friend on the Texans game."
The victim called police and then posted his story to Facebook along with a picture of the woman he says set him up.
"Watch your back because the cops are going to be coming for you," he said.
The man said he's since learned the robber claiming to be the woman's brother is actually her boyfriend.
The stolen truck is a red Dodge Ram 1500 with Texas plates DMH6370. It has body damage on the driver's side and passenger side doors. The hood is tied down with a rope.
Houston police said they are investigating.
