My Fit Foods announces closure of all stores nationwide

HOUSTON – My Fit Food Co. has announced Sunday that it is closing all of its stores.

The company, which started in 2006 has been known for its healthy food options online and in stores.

All employees who worked for the company were let go Sunday without warning, officials said.

“I was actually devastated because I had just got done playing a football game and I got the text saying basically I didn’t have a job,” My Fit Foods employee Martai Holden said.

That text from Holden's boss read:

"Good evening team. It is with a heavy heart when I say this, but today was the last day of business. My Fit Foods is closing as a company"

KPRC2 crews visited several My Fit Foods locations Sunday night and all were closed, with a sign announcing the closure on the front door.

My Fit Foods officials released the following statement:

“It is with a heavy heart that we announce the closure of all our stores. We know that you have depended upon us to support you healthy habits, and we are deeply sorry for any inconvenience our closure may have caused you.

“Please direct any inquiries to info@myfitfoods.com.

"Thank you for your kind support these past years, and we wish you all the best.”

The statement neglected to include why the chain had shut its doors, or the number of employees affected by the move.

The website has officially closed as of Sunday.

“If I went to work for them on Friday and they filed bankruptcy on Thursday then they told us on Saturday that means we basically worked for no reason,” Holden said.

Holden said that after 4 and a half years he was a top salesman at the Meyerland location, eventually making it to assistant general manager.

“I loved working for that company,” Holden said.

Now, he has to manage a life with a 4-year-old daughter without a job or a car.

“They put me in a situation to where it’s hard for me to live at this moment,” Holden said. “They said we have our fingers crossed to see if we could get that check Wednesday."

Customers of the chain were stunned to learn about the abrupt closure.

Chanda Allen said she shopped at My Fit Foods weekly.

"This was all about convenience," Allen said.

She said she will have to figure out a new meal plan for her weekly regiment. Allen expressed concern for the employees of the chain who lost their jobs as a result of the closure.

"Don't know what happened, Very sudden, surprising and sad," Allen said
