One dead after robbery, shooting in Crosby-Lynchburg

CROSBY, Texas – The Harris County Sheriff's Office is investigating a grocery store holdup that turned into a fatal shooting Thursday in Crosby-Lynchburg.

Family members identify the victim shot and killed as Javed Nizamani, a young father of two children.

"He's cool guy, very nice man. He's a good guy," said Ricky Nizamani, the victim's relative.

The family said Javed and his relative, Shahzeeb, were working at the family business the Barrett Grocery store when they were both shot by a vagrant from the area.

"My niece she called me and said something is happening here," Ricky Nizamani said.

"They asked him to leave and that made him angry," said Sgt. Robert Spurgeon, with the HSCO Homicide. "They argued. At one point, he breaks the window of the store and leaves."

After the first confrontation, deputies said the suspect, who goes by the name of Poo-man, returned to the store twice, and the second time brought a weapon.

"This time he came back with a firearm. He fired multiple times through the broken window, hitting both the clerks," Spurgeon said.

Shahzeeb was taken the hospital by ambulance, where he remains in unknown condition.

Javed Nizamani was flown by Life Flight, but later died.

Friends and family members are left stunned by what happened.

"It's just pitiful. I mean, you know, you hate to see it. It's always something bad. You just hate to see it," said Michael Destin, a friend and frequent customer.

"He was doing a lot of good for his family and family business. We're are very sad that today we suffered such a big loss for this family," said Muhammad Saeed Sheikh, the victim's longtime friend.

Two nearby schools were locked down following the shooting, but the all-clear was given and students have since been released.
