A Victoria crowned pigeon was born on Jan. 24 in the Birds of the World section at the zoo. The gender of the extinction-vulnerable bird is unknown at this time.
The chick has a brother that was born on Dec. 21, 2015. He was hatched by keepers after his parents abandoned the egg. He is being raised by the zoo's bird keepers.
According to the zoo, Victoria crowned pigeons are ground-dwellers and native to the island of New Guinea. They are also monogamous, typically mating for life.
