Search underway after convicted burglar escapes Liberty County Jail

LIBERTY COUNTY, Texas – A convicted burglar escaped the Liberty County Jail on Tuesday.

Authorities have identified the convict as Phillip Henry Freeman, 38. Officials said Freeman was convicted for burglary of a habitation.

Freeman is described as being 6 feet tall, 175 pounds, with brown hair and blue eyes.

The Liberty County Sheriff's Office said Freeman was confirmed missing at 11 a.m., and a search immediately began. Investigators said Freeman has "no record of past violence, although he does have one prior arrest for resisting arrest."

KPRC 2 was told he was last seen wearing a brown-colored jail jumpsuit, similar to nurses scrubs.
