HOUSTON – A super cop who gives 150 percent of herself everyday, every hour on the job. That's what Vicki Burger of Sugar Land says of her close friend and Stafford Police Officer Ann Marie Carrizales.
"She is just amazing, she loves her job, she loves her family and she loves helping everybody she can," said Vicki.
Early Saturday morning in the middle of a routine traffic stop, Officer Carrizales was shot twice, once in the chest and once in the face by a gunman in a car with two other suspects.
Even after being shot, Carrizales managed to fire back at her attackers, blasting out the entire rear window of the car as the suspects fled.
From there, she chased the three men in their vehicle all the way from Stafford to Houston, all the while bleeding from her wounds.
Two of the suspects escaped. Fredy Henriquez, 28, is considered the most dangerous.
Henriquez (pictured, above) is a gang member, is in this country illegally from Mexico being sought by federal authorities and has a long, violent criminal history.
Police investigators in Stafford said Henriquez should be considered armed and extremely dangerous.
The alleged gunman, Sergio Francisco Rodriquez (pictured, right), was arrested and is in custody, charged with aggravated assault on a peace officer.
As for Officer Carrizales, she is out of the hospital and is recovering at home with her husband and 2 children.
Carrizales is a former United States Marine, an amateur boxer, and was named Stafford Police Officer Of The Year.
"She is so high energy, so focused on her work and so tough. I know she will be back on the job soon, because she cares," her friend Vicki said, wiping tears from her eyes.
