Rilwan Balogun

Rilwan Balogun is a dedicated journalist and member of the KPRC 2 News team, recognized for his impactful reporting, including receiving a Texas Association of Broadcasters award for Breaking News coverage of the Uvalde school shooting; he was on the ground just hours after the tragedy and spent several days in Uvalde to provide comprehensive coverage. He returned multiple times to ensure the community's story was heard.

His career journey has taken him through various cities, including Lansing, Michigan; Greensboro, North Carolina; and New Orleans, Louisiana, each stop contributing to his growth as a journalist. Rilwan began his career as a news fellow in 2015 in Phoenix, Arizona, where he participated in Carnegie-Knight News21’s investigative project on marijuana legalization, earning recognition by IRE (Investigative Reporters and Editors).

As a Nigerian American, Rilwan takes pride in living in Houston, home to the largest Nigerian population outside of Nigeria. He is a member of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc., the National Association of Black Journalists, and IRE, championing diversity and excellence in media.

When he’s not reporting, Rilwan can be found in the gym, hitting the pavement as a runner, cheering on his beloved Tennessee Volunteers, or indulging his passion for film as a cinephile.
