HOUSTON – Early Tuesday, heavy overnight storms dumped up to 6 inches of rain in different parts in the city.
North Houston was one of the areas hit hard by rain that left many roadways flooded, people without cars and homes with water inside.
"We just thought it was going to be a regular storm, like usually, but when we went outside and looked out the door, the water started coming in already,” said Isaiah Guerrero, whose home flooded.
Guerrero said the overnight rain started coming in quickly and it was a race against time to move furniture to higher ground. It’s not the first time this family has flooded, during major rain events, they tend to see a lot of high water.
The Guerrero family lives across the street from Halls Bayou and behind the feeder of I-45 at West. Mount Houston Road.
Many cars were stranded Tuesday morning after flood waters swallowed vehicles at the intersection of I-45 feeder and West Mount Houston Rd. At one point, a monster truck wrapped in a Thin Blue Line American flag started towing vehicles out of the water.

Much of the water receded by midafternoon.
All Houston Community College classes and offices were delayed due to severe weather and resumed to regular business hours by 10 a.m.
The highest rainfall totals were reported across western Harris County. According to the county’s Flood Warning System, 8.28 inches of rain fell in Mayde Creek near Cullen Park, and 8.12 inches of rain fell in Mason Creek near George Bush Park.

Video from Sky 2 showed dozens of vehicles stranded in several locations across the city, including a METRO bus near Travis Street and I-45.
Harris County deputies said they performed nine high-water rescues Tuesday morning.

County emergency workers urged people to stay off the roads if possible. They said if drivers encounter water-covered roadways, they should turn around and find an alternate route or wait for the water to recede.

The Harris County Flood Warning System reported the following problems along creeks and bayous in the area:

- Little Cypress Creek @ Becker Road
- Live Oak Creek @ Penick Road
- South Mayde Creek @ Peek Road
- South Mayde @ Greenhouse Road
Water recedes from homes in west Houston
It was a long night and early morning for the Weuscher family whose home sits along an offshoot of the buffalo bayou.
As the rain came down, their worries continued to rise, right along with the water level.
"It was rising pretty quickly though. I guess that was the scariest part, making sure we were out of harm’s way," Lucie Wuescher, whose home was flooded said.

Before they knew it, the water had gotten in to the lower level of their home, several feet in some places.
"The water on this flood, came up to the fourth step on the bottom. Which in this room is probably about 2 feet," Wuescher said.
The flood water damaged their kid’s playroom, a spare bedroom and more with likely thousands of dollars in damage.
Unfortunately, it's not the first time the family has had to deal with this.
"We've actually in 26 months, this is our 4th floor," Wuescher said.
Just as it has during the tax day flood, Memorial Day flood and another time ... the heavy rain and flooding hit the Wueschers hard, who are once again back to cleaning up.
"We’re back at renovating the house again and drying it out and ripping the walls out. And putting everything back together again," Wuescher said.
Today’s forecast
The heaviest of the morning rain shifted east of the Houston area by 8 a.m., with only isolated light rain still being reported. Locations under the storms could see street flooding.
Temperatures will climb into the lower 90s for highs.
